Finding a trustworthy coach

Finding a trustworthy person to help you with your fitness journey and nutrition isn't always easy. Having traversed the health and fitness industry for the last decade I know first hand how complicated it can be.

Media outlets are brimming with click bait headlines promoting the latest fad fitness trends and it seems everyone, from friends to family members, has the answer to better health, weight loss magic and fitness success. Yet so much of this information is conflicting and there's so much of it.

  • How do you know what's true?
  • How do you know where to start?
  • How do you know what the best method actually is?

When I first started out in the industry, I found myself asking these questions and set about finding the truth.

Where health and fitness meets science

I can't go any further without talking briefly about science, so please bear with me.

Science is often thought of as an extremely complex subject that is only practised by supreme academics. And whilst there is truth to that, science at the most basic level is a very simple framework that we use to uncover truths about the natural world we live in.

The scientific method goes like this:

  1. We observe something happening
  2. We hypothesise why that thing is happening
  3. We set up and run a test to try and prove our hypothesis

Sometimes the test proves our hypothesis to be correct and other times it doesn't.

When it does, more tests are run to try and further prove it. When enough tests have been run and they all come back with the same result, we can be confident that the hypothesis is true.

Where science can get complex is when multiple tests bring back conflicting results. Some tests prove the hypothesis, and others don't. And then there's the issue with the tests themselves. Some tests are better than others.

A huge problem in the health and fitness industry is the sheer amount of people who are contributing information. Unfortunately, most people are not able to accurately interpret scientific data and as a result, lots of incorrect information gets published.

This happens in the media on a daily basis. Remember, news outlets are businesses and getting "clicks" mean profit. And social media is an even bigger problem. Its a completely unregulated industry where anyone can upload whatever they want to make a profit.

The vast vast majority of what you read about health and fitness in the media is either untrue or at best completely misrepresented.

Over the last 10 years I have established myself within a community of nutritionist and fitness professionals who represent scientific data with integrity and honesty.

And that's exactly what you'll get when working with me!

A little about my background

I'm originally from Bristol and studied at Bristol Grammar School

After a gap year honing my kickboxing skills in Thailand, I attended Bournemouth University and obtained a degree in Business studies.

From there I moved to London and worked briefly in hospitality before starting my own venture as a Personal Trainer and Nutritionist.

During my 10 years in London I met my wife Bec. In 2021 we decided to relocate to Cornwall to be closer to both our families.

We were thrilled to introduce our son Jacob to the world in June of 2024.

Bec and I recognise how lucky we are to be able to call Cornwall home and raise a family here.

It's everything we could have dreamed of and more.
